SUMMARY IN PSYCHOLOGY

CHAPTER 9 PERSPECTIVE ON ABNORMAL BEHAVIOR

Abnormal psychology > is concerned wit the understanding and treatment of mental disorders.
Abnormal behavior as interchangeable , and largely avoid the other terms.

             ABNORMALITY IN HISTORICAL CONTEXT

Medical Model > A theory of Abnormal behavior which assumes that all such disorders have psychological causes.    
Psychiatrist> Are medical doctors who specialize in treating mental disorders.

           CLASSIFYING ABNORMAL BEHAVIOR

Agoraphobia >This type of anxiety reflects a disorder called  agoraphobia

aetiology >the study of  the disease of mental disorders

     Defective Attention > a difficulty in selecting and attending to the relevant stimuli in situation.


              THE PSYHODYNAMIC APPROACH

SYMPTOM SUBSTITUTION > the expression of the problem in a new way.
INSIGHT .> In psychotherapy awareness  of the underlying  conflicts which are regarded as the causes of behavior.
INTERPERSONAL THERAPY>IS A SHORT-TERM THERAPY which focuses the individuals current interpersonal problems.
            THE HUMANISTIC APPROACH
 Person Centered therapy >also called client - therapy .
